What is Aquaponics

Aquaponics is a system in which aquaculture (the raising of aquatic animals for food) and hydroponics (the growing of plants in water) are integrated to cultivate both plant and aquatic animal life in a controlled, sustainable environment. Although the specific species of plants and animals may differ depending on each system, all aquaponics systems center upon the symbiosis of aquaculture naturally providing plant life with vital nutrients, and hydroponics acting as a natural filter of toxins for aquatic animal life.
